Spray Rig Operator

Rombola Family Farms encompasses over 4,000 hectares of intensive irrigated horticultural production at Griffith (NSW), Bundaberg (QLD) and Mataranka (NT). Agricultural enterprises include Seedless Watermelon, Rockmelons, Broccoli, Pumpkin, Almonds and Winegrapes. Operations include primary production, processing, value adding and marketing.

We are seeking a skilled and responsible Spray Rig Operator to join our team in Griffith, NSW. The Spray Rig Operator will help maintain the health and vitality of our farm’s produce. As a key member of our agricultural team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining spray rigs, applying pesticides and fertilizers, and ensuring the overall well-being of our crops.


Key accountabilities include:

  • Operate and maintain farm equipment, including tractors and sprayers.
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate crop conditions to determine appropriate treatment measures.
  • Keep accurate records of chemical usage, equipment maintenance, and daily activities.
  • Ensure proper calibration of equipment for precise application.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Assisting with minor repairs and general farm maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Periodical guidance to less experienced staff and labour hire.
  • Implement environmental stewardship practices to minimize impact.
  • Collaborate with other farm personnel on various tasks.

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Previous experience as a Spray Rig Operator or similar role on a farm is highly preferred.
  • Chemical Accreditation (ChemCert).
  • Knowledge and experience with precision ag technology.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable using modern technology such as smart phones.
  • Transportation and a valid driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge of safe pesticide application practices and farm machinery operation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets.
  • A truck license and/or a valid forklift license would be considered an advantage.
